A Toast to Seinfeld: "Here's to Those Who Wish Us Well..."

Recently, Seinfeld celebrated its 25th Anniversary and there have been all kinds of lists that have popped up. But I've yet to see a list like this one. Alcohol wasn't a huge part of the show as the group rarely even drank. But there have been some classic episodes (they're all classics, really) which alcohol played a supporting role. And much like sports fans who enjoy a cocktail while watching a game, we here at Producers in Bars enjoy a drink with our TV viewing. So raise a glass, literally, to the greatest show ever.

The Betrayal (Season 9, Episode 8)

One of the most underrated episodes there is, Elaine, George and Jerry travel to India for Sue Ellen Mischke's wedding. It's the only TV show to ever be shown in reverse, pretty groundbreaking stuff for a show about nothing. Some classic lines came out of this episode, including George's "You can stuff your sorrys in a sack!" and "Funny guy!" It also allowed us to see Elaine as we've never seen her...drunk. Everyone has a vice, and Elaine's is Peach Schnapps.

The Red Dot (Season 3, Episode 12)

Seinfeld has been known to tackle some of life's toughest physiological questions, and in this episode, it asks, "how much can you drink before someone can smell the alcohol on you?" Also, George has sex with the cleaning woman at Pendant Publishing, creating one of the most quoted lines of the show (at least by me) when he was asked about the incident by Mr. Lippman: "Was that wrong? I tell ya, I've got to plead ignorance on this one. If anybody had told me when I started here that that type of thing is frowned upon..." But perhaps the best scene of this episode is when Kramer takes only a few shots of Hennigan's scotch, then hilarity ensues. Even Jerry takes a swig. Too bad it's not a real brand of scotch. But if it were, we'd be drinking it.

The Little Kicks (Season 8, Episode 4)

So many great moments came out of this episode, including George being "a bad seed"..."I'm a bad man!!", Jerry becoming a movie bootlegger, and Kramer's classic line after George gets arrested, "He tried to lamb, but they cheesed him." But without Elaine's dancing, this episode is nothing. And since she's drinking Champagne before she debuts her suave moves on the dance floor, it makes this list.

The Stranded (Season 3, Episode 10)

Seinfeld has had appearances by plenty of actors who went on to become huge stars, but not many remember Michael Chiklis, who played an owner of a house in Long Island that Elaine and Jerry were stranded at until Kramer picked them up. Who would have guessed at the time that he would eventually become the lead character on of the greatest shows ever (and one of my all time favorites), The Shield. The episode also gave us Elaine's "Maybe the dingo ate your baby." Not exactly sure what Chiklis and Kramer are drinking but pretty sure it's either Courvoisier or whiskey.

The Sniffing Accountant (Episode 4, Season 5)

Once again, Kramer is the character who indulges in an adult beverage, this time it's a frosty brew, as he, Newman and Jerry set out to determine if Jerry's accountant is on drugs. "Here's to feeling good all the time."

The Revenge (Season 2, Episode 7)

This episode from Season 2 is, in my belief, extremely underrated. George quits his job in dramatic fashion, as only George can, with perhaps the greatest "I quit" speech in history, and attempts to get back at his boss by slipping him a mickey at Lasky's Bar. We also get a classic conversation between Jerry and George as they discuss George's career. "I like to watch movies. Do they pay people to watch movies?" George's boss gives the classic line "I will always be a winner. And you will always be a loser." Come to think of it, this episode might be the perfect compliment to Producers in Bars. Wanting to get paid to watch movies, hanging out in a bar...it's perfect.

So here's to Seinfeld. L'Chaim. Salud. Cheers!
